Towards a Cohesive Xanderian Authorship Theory [Post-PHIL]

Hey, all! “Long time listener, first time caller” here. Just wanted to share my two cents on the whole Xander/Bobby debate, since I think there is a little bit of confusion (and a lot of hostility!) about why some of us still believe Xander wrote The Letter. Essentially, I consider Xander to be a performance artist (as well as a musician/lyricist), and his medium in this case is his own fame. He named Bobby as the “true” writer of The Letter because he is trying to create a meta-narrative, in which he (Xander) is the true Artist who wants to Create on his own terms but is being exploited, limited, and controlled by the forces of capitalism, as symbolized by Bobby. Bobby wrote and published The Letter (in the meta-narrative) to compel Xander to write a concept album based on the story.
Xander-the-artist doesn’t want to write this concept album, but he will because he has to. This is cleverly mirrored in the fact that The Letter is set in a forced-labor camp. However, like the protagonist of The Letter, he will find fulfillment and even joy despite his bleak surroundings.Therefore, the album that does come out will be both an original piece of creative work by Xander-the-artist and a concession to Bobby’s demands. This duality ensures that it will be subject to intense exegesis by members of the Company - where do we see Bobby’s influence, where does the Artist shine through, etc. (It's also a continuation of Xander's well-documented interest in dualism; see Black Carousel interview, etc.)
Essentially, Xander’s true creative project is a commentary on the act of creation itself. Now, surely Bobby Melrose the man was complicit in this endeavor. (We may distinguish Bobby-the-writer, the character in the meta-narrative, from Bobby the actual person, just as we have done with Xander and Xander-the-Artist.) Perhaps the project is a collaboration between the two. However, I think it is abundantly clear that it is a fiction, as will be any feud between the two men, with the goal of creating the context for the new album, and drumming up enthusiasm for it. (Think of professional wresting, perhaps, as a useful model: one wrestler plays the "villain" role.) The interviews and articles, and even our posts here, are all part of this as well: we are, in a sense, doing Xander’s work for him. As my namesake famously said, “There is nothing outside the text.”
